Green Gazette
Acceptance speech recap and some hot inside scoops
By Jason Borrajo
Stand up straight America, the Green Gazette has the top story. Looks like that green good-doer Alejandro Torres has shown he’s got what it takes, having the best speech, and least scandal. Torres shared he wanted to stop discrimination, that there would be peace and harmony and he would better the world. This seems to be the first of many fantastic speeches from President Torres. Sadly it seemed as though the two other candidates didn’t have the same chops. Bouchard seemed to have only talk about America’s “bankruptcy”, and how “the republican system is broken”, while not really mentioning what she’s going to do to make it better. And, while Hamlet seemed t stay away from the negative, it also seemed that he was stalling for time a bit, spending what seemed half of his speech thanking everyone. Also it seemed that Hamlet wasn’t his most professional self, his shirt being terribly un-ironed and all. This I learned in a special interview with Democratic body guard Jake Woods, along with some other shocking details. This democratic representative commented on President Torres’ appearance, saying “black on black”. Racist, or harsh fashion critic. You make up your mind America, but this Green Gazette guide has made up his. Green Gazette Debate turns into an argument By Jason Borrajo
Seems like it IS easy being green as shown by the recent presidential debate. Seems like both the Democratic and Republican parties agreed on abortion, which seemed out of place for Republican party, who agreed with the idea of abortion. When confronted about this, he said he didn’t 100% agree with what the republican party stood for. I know for a fact that the Green Party and Alejandro Torres are on the same page. The President Torres was asked about his views on Marijuana. He said that it should be legalized and taxed, so we can lower crime rates and help the economy. Classic Green Party. Then when the fact that the Republican and Democratic candidates have had an affair was brought up, things got a little spicy. The Democratic candidate seemed to have had things under control, but then the Republican party candidate explained how the other candidate had broken his heart showing there was still animosity. You won’t find anything like that in the green party. On the topic of immigration, the Democratic and Green party shared the same view, but the Republican candidate differed very much so. At least he stayed in Republican opinion, even if it isn’t a very good opinion. When asked about pollution prevention the Green party replied by saying we should educate the youth. Classic Green Party move. Finally, concerning Ebola, the Democratic candidate expressed an isolationist view, the Republican candidate called Ebola the “second black plague”, and President Torres expressed how it has taken America too long to stand up to the Ebola problem. This has been the highlights of the presidential debates.
America. Land of the free and home of the brave. My fellow Americans, I ask you here today, can we truly call ourselves brave and free? Until we stop discriminating, until we stop judging and hating and hiding from the real problems of our country and the world, we cannot begin to think we are ready to claim we are so. But that is why I stand before you today. I’d like to invite you all to join me as we work together to transform the United States into a Country where we can all live in peace and harmony.
In my thirteen years as a student, I often wondered how I could make a difference, how could I personally bring about a change in my country. And so, I’d like to bring that childhood wonder to all of you. If I take office as president your voice will be heard, and through the ideas of grassroots democracy, each small wave can cause a rippling effect.
As President, I promise to shake off the shackles that have held us Americans down for so long. These shackles of fear and bias that we’ve grown comfortable with over time need to be removed. We’ve waited much too long with some of these issues, and it’s time that we finally took a stand to protect and reform not only our country but the state of the world. As of now, we only have one home, and that is this planet. It is our duty to ensure that our children and our children’s children have a clean, healthy world to live in. We will paint America green, make it an example for all who watch us. Step bravely out of our comfort zone, and in doing so open new jobs in things like clean manufacturing, public transportation, and anything else that can help make not only this country, but the world, a better place.
And not only will I ensure a green world, but I promise to take steps towards an environment of equality. Too long we have been blocked by the barriers of racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia. It’s time we break down these barriers and pave the way to a country where no one is hurt and no one is left behind. I promise to help us take the steps towards tearing down these walls and clearing the pathway for us, as we cannot be free if we continue to be blocked by them.
So I ask you, fellow citizens, friends, family: what will your choice be? Will you continue to hide? Will you continue to ignore these problems that affect not only us but the entire world? Or will you be brave and stand against those who block out the cries for change? Standing up always takes a risk, but in doing so, by voting for the Green Party, we can truly call ourselves American. So America let us take a step in the right direction and go green!
EcologicalWisdom- We are all citizens of the world, and it is time we recognize that and learn to live within the ecological and resource limits of it. We must respect the laws of nature and not live in ways that will further harm our ecosystem and destroy this planet. Progress must be made to change the way with live instead of changing nature to live the way we want, lest future generations suffer the consequences of our past actions. We must make movements towards more ecologically friendly ways of living, find ways to replenish soil, move towards a more energy efficient economy, and teach ourselves and our children to respect nature.
Social Justice and Equal Opportunity- Everyone is created equally, and therefore, everyone deserves the same rights as everyone else. We cannot continue to keep up the barriers of racism, class oppression, sexism and homophobia, all of which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the eyes of the law. Politicians and government officials, teachers and doctors, can all potentially act out of personal biases, whether they realize it or not. It is necessary that we chip away at these biases and create a country that everyone can live in equally and freely, without worry about whether or not they'll punished or persecuted for their way of life.
Non-Violence- Violence is a fear tactic. It displays aggression, and should not be enforced in any way. Therefore, we will work to demilitarize, and stop the production of weapons of mass destruction, but at the same time, be aware of the need for self defense and the need to aid countries who are helpless to help themselves. Non-violent methods should be taken in cases of disagreement towards practices or policies in form of peaceful protest. Through these actions, we hope to guide our society to one of lasting peace.
Decentralization- Too much power and wealth are placed in the hands of the upper class, which only leads to the problems of social and economic injustice, militarization, and environmental destruction. Due to this, we support a reconstructing of all aspects of society, economic, political, and social, and hope to move towards a system that is more democratic, instead of one that is controlled by the few with power, who in turn are the only ones to receive benefits. Citizen rights should continue to remain protected, but decision making should be moved to and remain in the hands of the individual; each person's voice needs to count.
Future Focus and Sustainability- Everything we do will affect our futures and the futures of new generations, and so, we should choose our actions carefully, making sure everything we do is with the future in mind. The planet must be sustained so that we can continue to live on it, political and economical problems should be solved so that those who inherit our positions will be able to live comfortably and with the good examples we have set in bettering our future.
Closing Speech
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who offered me their support throughout this campaign, I couldn't have done it without you. And thank you to everyone who has stood by and vowed to vote for me to make this country a better place.
This is it. The final stretch. From here on I pass the choice and duty of deciding this country's future into the hands of you, America's citizens. What happens next is all up to you and your votes. Myself and the other candidates have presented to you the ups and downs, the wrongs and rights, and now it is up to you to decide. Who will you vote for?
Will you vote for a safe world, one we feel confident in passing on to the next generations? Will you vote for a world that isn't polluted, where humans, animals, and plant life can all live in harmony, each receiving the respect they deserve?
Will you vote for equality? The right for a woman to choose, the right for everyone to love and be with whomever they so choose, without fear of discrimination or harm towards themselves and the ones they love. Will you vote for equal pay for all genders and a country where all man is truly created equal?
Will you vote for a world of peace, one where differences are not settled with bloodshed and grief, but with intelligence and discussion? Will you vote for a country that prides itself not on the war it wages, but the wars it avoids, one where violence is a last resort in all situations?
We have come a long way as a country, but we still have many roads ahead of us. I ask you, citizens of America, to make the right decision. Don't go down the paths we have always gone down while following the two main parties of this country. Help make history. Your voice does matter. By voting for the Green Party, you aren't voting for me, you are voting for America. It is in your hands to change America for the better, and I trust and have faith that you all wish to see this country and this world move forward.
